The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has announced the death of youth activist Welcome Ncube, popularly known as “Wesco”, who passed away on 13 May 2026 in Bulawayo after a brief illness.

In a condolence message released on the same day, MRP President Cde Thembisani Mfulongatshi Mpofu said the party was “deeply saddened by the untimely passing” of Ncube, describing him as a “vibrant and dedicated young man”.

According to the statement, Ncube actively participated in programmes aimed at promoting and preserving the culture, traditions and aspirations of the people of Matabeleland. He was also involved in various MRP activities and community initiatives, where his energy and willingness to serve were “greatly appreciated”.

“The passing of Cde Wesco is a painful loss not only to his family and friends, but also to the broader Mthwakazi community and all those whose lives he touched through his activism and cultural involvement,” the statement read.

The MRP extended condolences to the Ncube family, relatives, friends and colleagues, saying it hoped they would find strength and comfort during the mourning period.

Ncube was known within MRP circles for his involvement in cultural‑preservation efforts in Matabeleland. The party did not provide details on funeral arrangements.
