HARARE – Zimbabwe is upgrading infrastructure at all its border posts to decongest crossings, improve traveller safety and streamline trade with Malawi and Mozambique, the government said on Tuesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Zimbabwe/Malawi/Mozambique Trilateral Joint Route Management Group and Joint Committee Meetings in Harare, Permanent Secretary for Transport and Infrastructural Development Engineer Joy Makumbe said the modernisation programme aims to ensure seamless movement of goods and services across the three countries.

The three‑day meetings, running from 9–11 June 2026, bring together officials from the trilateral bloc to harmonise business regulations and transport routes.

"Modernising our border infrastructure is critical to decongesting borders and ensuring the safety of travellers while amplifying ease of doing business," Makumbe told journalists.

The announcement signals a renewed push to reduce delays at key crossings used by regional traders and haulage operators, with the three countries seeking closer economic integration through coordinated route management and improved border efficiency.
