THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe said on Monday it had completed compiling a register of all mobile phone users in the country.
Last year, Potraz ordered all mobile phone operators to register their subscribers as a standard international security measure to curb criminal use of cellphones.
The registration deadline was February 28 this year.
Potraz director-general Engineer Charles Sibanda told New Ziana the registration exercise had been completed, and the parastatal now had the register for all mobile users in the country.
"We have compiled a register of all phone users which has been uploaded in a database," he said. "The register will not be for public consumption."
The country has an estimated 9,2 million mobile phone subscribers. Mr Sibanda said the register would be updated continuously.
By the end of February, NetOne had registered 90 percent of its subscribers, while Telecel had registered 80 percent, and Econet 60 percent, reflecting a combined average of 70 percent.
