A 26-YEAR-OLD woman who was deported from Britain arrived in Zimbabwe yesterday in handcuffs after she allegedly assaulted some immigration officials.

The woman (name withheld) came through Kenya and was escorted by three Britain Immigration officials.

Sources at the Harare International Airport said the British government deported the woman for entering the country illegally and without the relevant documents.

"After she was arrested by the British immigration officials, she reportedly became violent and assaulted officers.

"She was however, handcuffed and some officials had to escort the woman to Zimbabwe," an immigration official said.

The three officials handed her to their Zimbabwean counterparts before leaving Zimbabwe through South Africa.

The woman was then set free by the immigration officials at the Harare International Airport. A number of illegal Zimbabweans resident in the United Kingdom are facing deportation after the government there noted the improvement in the political and economic situation in Zimbabwe.

For the past few years, several Zimbabweans have been deported from the United Kingdom after failing to get asylum permits. The illegal immigrants however, continue to resist deportation claiming that they face imminent arrest and death upon their return.
