President Robert Mugabe, who cancelled an appearance at a cultural festival in New Delhi, never actually arrived in India, his former information minister Jonathan Moyo said on Thursday.
Mugabe, 92, left Harare for India on Monday, the official Herald newspaper reported then. But now there is speculation that he may have stopped off somewhere else. Where, no-one will say yet.
Moyo tweeted on Thursday: "[Mugabe] did not cut short the visit in India. but cancelled the trip to India!"
"Not being in [Zimbabwe] does not mean he is or was in India!" the higher education minister said.
At least one TV station in New Delhi has reported that Mugabe did arrive.
Zimbabweans on social media were asking where Mugabe was, since his spokesperson George Charamba announced on Wednesday that he would only arrive back in Zimbabwe "in a couple of days".
Some used the hashtag #BringBackOurBob.
Popular Zimbabwe blogger @CynicHarare tweeted: "MISSING: Elderly man who left home on Monday saying he's going to India, but was still to arrive there by Thursday!"
