A MAN from Chinotimba suburb in Victoria Falls was rushed to hospital on Monday after a hooker he had allegedly hired for sex severely assaulted him for failing to pay $10 for her services.

Thandekile Moyo, (26) from the same suburb, bit off a chunk of flesh from Mr Wellington Maturure's left cheek, a court heard yesterday.

The livid hooker allegedly went on to hit Mr Maturure with an empty beer bottle on the head and elbow.

Moyo pleaded guilty to assault when she appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje yesterday.

She told the court that she committed the offence while defending herself as Mr Maturure had assaulted her in a misunderstanding over payment.

"I didn't intend to hurt him but I was trying to free myself as he was assaulting me. He hit me twice with fists but I didn't have time to seek medication," said Moyo.

She said she is a hairdresser and solicits for sex at night to supplement her earnings.

Moyo pleaded for leniency saying she has two minor kids to support.

The magistrate sentenced Moyo to eight months in jail but conditionally suspended two.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that she completes 210 hours of community service at Victoria Falls Police Station starting today.

Prosecuting, Mr Onias Nyathi said Mr Maturure hired Moyo for sex on Monday and the two fought after he failed to pay her.

"The complainant approached the accused while at Chinotimba Sports Bar and asked to have sex with her for a fee. The two proceeded to the accused's place of residence where they had sex but an argument ensued over payment," said the prosecutor.

The court heard that an agitated Moyo grabbed Mr Maturure by the throat before hitting him on the head twice with an empty beer bottle and once on the elbow.

A report was made to the police leading to Moyo's arrest while an injured Mr Maturure was rushed to Victoria Falls District Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

A medical report presented in court showed that he suffered severe injuries on the cheek, head and arm.
