Quest for being respected leads man to death

The quest for being respected and recognized in the society led to the death of a Plumtree man who was beaten to death by a fellow villager.
Appearing at the Bulawayo High Court on Monday, Jakweleni Sylvester Ngwenya( 30) of Madlambudzi village in Plumtree was accused of killing of Nkosilathi Nleya also of Madlambadzi in Plumtree.
The court led by Mr Arnold Mudekunye, heard that the now deceased assaulted one Honour Moyo whom he accused of not greeting him while at Ndazi Ndazi Bottle Store in Makhukela, Plumtree.
"The now deceased then picked a piece of brick and hit Honour Moyo in the right eye. Honour Moyo then proceeded to Ncube Shop where he met his cousin brother Jakweleni Sylvester Ngwenya and told him that he was assaulted by the now deceased", the court heard.
It was further stated that the now-deceased produced an okapi knife and stabbed Ngwenya in the right rib after the latter had asked him why he had assaulted his cousin.
In revenge, Ngwenya assaulted the now-deceased using a mopane log leading to his death.
Magistrate, Mr Joshua Nembaware granted Ngwenya ZWL$10000 bail to 24 January 2024.
