Bulawayo soccer giants Highlanders Football Club has been criticized by its supporters for circulating an advertisement calling for potential candidates to occupy the office of the Chief Executive Officer which fell vacant after the expiry of the contract of Nhlanhla Bahlangene Dube.

What otherwise would have been a normal corporate advertisement was tainted by the qualifications that the suitable candidate should have; a minimum of a Diploma.

The advert prompted academic and Skyz Metro FM top boss Nkanyiso Mathonsi to question the wisdom behind lowering qualification standards for such a senior managerial position.

"Surely surely surely...this must be the most ludicrous information I have received in 2022. How can people be so blatant in trying to give their friends jobs." Mathonsi wrote on Facebook. "Where in the world is it sensible for the CEO of the biggest football organisation in the country to qualify with a minimum of a diploma for the job? None of those qualifying aspects for this vacancy make any sense."

He added that the advert projected a betrayal on those who wished for a professionally run team.

"They are a betrayal of what some of us envision Highlanders FC can become. So this CEO what kind of Accountant will he supervise? Nxa yena ele minimum ye diploma what will be the minimum qualifications for his or her subordinates.

How will this CEO manage a 1 million dollar sponsorship? How? How? How? Yazi kasihloniphani lathi sometimes njengabantu besintwini. Kuyadelelisa lokhu."

When questioned on whether qualifications matter when some of the world's billionaires have no qualifications, Mathonsi said, "Highlanders is not a start-up nor a family business. It is a struggling institution that needs very serious strategic management focus. The advert in question does not even require one to have a minimum number of years in a senior management role."

Other supporters who commented on Mathonsi's status concurred that the team needed a properly qualified person to occupy the post of CEO.
