Asiagate scandal takes a new twist, 16 more players suspended

The Asiagate soccer scandal has taken  a fresh twist with details emerging that 16 players were omitted in the initial list published of those  82 suspended.

The inclusion is of the 16 bring the number to 98.

It also emerged that three sports journalist have been banned from covering an national soccer matches.

They include Qadr Amini, Lincon Zvasiya, Ramson Zhuwawo, Benjamin Marere, Mathew Rusike, Tafadzwa Rusike, Brighton Tuwaya, Progress Musepa, Yasser Chapfika, George Karimupfumbi, Gift Kwaramba, Artwell Mukandi, Nicho Francis, Edwin Nkomo, Elijah Soko and a C Ncube.

The players formed the bulk of under 23 national team coached by the suspended Methembe Ndlovu.

Zifa communication manager Nicky Dlamini confirmed that the players were omitted from the initial list.

The ban  on affected  journalist as with the players and officials will be lifted once the journalists are cleared by the association's ethics committee.

Hope Chizuzu is said to be among the trio. He travelled with Monomotapa in Malaysia claiming to be a media consultant.

The Zimbabwe national team played a series of soccer matches in Asia in 2009 whose results were determined by betting syndicates working in cahoots with local football officials, national team coaches, selected players and local sports journalists.
