18-year-old Bongani Nkabinde was killed with his own weapon according to a pupil at Sizimele High School in Dannhauser, KZN where Bongani was murdered with a home-made spear.

"He came to school armed, just like the other boys," said the pupil.

"His friends ran away. His enemies took his stick with a metal point and attacked him with it. He was killed with the weapon he had taken to school to defend himself."

Nkosingiphile Nkabinde (41) wants to know where the teachers were while his son was being murdered on Monday.

Bongani's group, Abaphumeleli, allegedly accused their rivals, the Bhananas from the JT Mdikane area, of stealing their songs and moves.

A video shows Bongani being struck down.

Nkosingiphile said a relative got the video but wouldn't let him watch it.

"He said that a father should not see his son die like that."

He listened to the video without looking at it.

"Not once did I hear any of the teachers, including the principal, trying to stop the fight."

He said he was told the teachers ran away and watched from a distance.

Willies Mchunu, the MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, visited the school and told parents it was their responsibility to ensure that kids come to school to learn and not to fight.

He was angry to hear that some parents were encouraging their kids to get into fights.

Education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said teachers were trained to teach, not to deal with violence.

"What do you expect teachers to do when pupils are fighting with dangerous weapons?

"That is why they called the cops," he said.

Captain Thulani Zwane said that five boys appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with the murder
