Man slain lover on Valentine's day

THE jilted lover walked over to his girlfriend's house on Saturday, but he wasn't carrying a Valentine's gift to make up.

Daily Sun reported that instead he carried a big knife and an axe, and furiously chopped down Roseline Mushaavhathu's door.

Then he dragged her outside and – in full view of horrified neighbours – killed her by slashing her on the head!

The crazed man then ran to his sister's house nearby where he hanged himself.

Roseline's family, of Phalama Village in Mutale, Limpopo and the village itself have been plunged into deep mourning.

Roseline was a grade 10 pupil at Tshidimbini Secondary School and mum of a two-year-old boy.

Neighbour Udivhamudzimu Ntsieni (19) said she witnessed the drama.

"I saw her sweeping the lapa outside when all of a sudden she ran into her room with her boyfriend in pursuit.

"She locked herself in but the man chopped down the door with an axe and hauled her out. She was screaming for help and calling my mother's name but unfortunately my mum was relieving herself.

"We tried to get help from neighbours but it was in vain.  He slashed her four times on the head and she collapsed and died on the scene. I wish I could have done something to help her but I was too scared. The man had a big knife and an axe," said Udivhamudzimu.

The dead girl's madala, Robert Maranda (64), said: "She was everything to us. She even used her grant money for everyone in the family as none of us is employed.

"We are still in a state of shock and we do not know how to cope," he said.

Mutale police spokesman Simon Nyambeni confirmed the incident, saying they had opened inquest and murder dockets.
