A DIRECTOR at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) Rejoice Sibanda has been reported to police for allegedly assaulting her subordinate after accusing him of stealing an unspecified amount of money from her handbag.

Collence Marira reported the assault incident under RRB 5224929.

In a letter dated August 4, 2022 to Zec chairperson, Priscilla Chigumba, Marira's lawyers Masango Seda Mutema Legal Practitioners, lodged a complaint against Sibanda who is cited as the Zec director of voter education.

"Client advises that on the morning of the July 26, 2022, while executing his routine morning duties, he cleaned the office of one Sibanda… He further advises that a short while later and at around 0900hrs, he was summoned to attend at said office for reasons that were not specified to him," the lawyers wrote.

"Client further advises that upon attending at said office, he observed the presence of the aforementioned Sibanda as well as one Gift Mahachi who is the assistant administration officer and a Rumbidzai Esau, who is secretary to Sibanda.

"According to our brief, our client upon entering the said office was immediately confronted by Sibanda who called him a thief, accusing him of stealing money from her desk and demanding that he returns the same immediately."

It is alleged that Sibanda slapped Marira after he denied the allegations.

In response, Zec deputy commissioner Rodney Kiwa said the matter was being dealt with internally.
