MDC-T Chitungwiza chairman Alexio Masundire has called on members to respect party leader Morgan Tsvangirai's choice of wife Elizabeth Macheka despite her strong Zanu PF background.
Addressing a rally in Harare, Masundire said the members should not judge Macheka because of her father's political affiliation but regard her as the mother of the party.
Macheka is the daughter of Zanu PF central committee member and former Chitungwiza Mayor Joseph Macheka.
"I want to talk about the marriage of our leader Morgan Tsvangirai to Elizabeth Macheka, we know her father is Zanu PF but what we know is that we have been together with the daughter since the party was formed," said Masundire.
"Our members are saying the problem is that she is Zanu PF but we know she has been a member ever since, she is our daughter from Chitungwiza let us respect her. It is a persona matter and we are supposed to accept her as the mother of the party because the father has made a decision.
"We must accept what the father has given us children as our mother and not oppose it."
