MDC Bulawayo Province has alleged nominated for Provincial Chairmanship former Ward 7 Councillor James Sithole who was once convicted of abusing public office and stealing funds before being pardoned by the then Minister Saviour Kasukuwere.
Sithole served as Councillor for Ward 7 Makokoba from 2013 to 2018. It is during that time that hne was convicted of therft of puiblic funds amounting to USD$ 216, 176. 47.
Sources close to the case allege that when the Local Government Board reccommended the suspension of corrupt councillors, James Sithole was one of the Councillors who was suspended.
Tables miraculously turned after Sithole allegedly met former Cabinet Minister Kasukuwere and they made an undisclosed deal that led to the Minister issuing an instruction that the Councillor must be reinstated.
In 2016 MDC Vice President Professor Welshman Ncube has ripped into the corrupt Bulawayo councillors calling them ‘mafia gangs' masquerading as residents' representatives.
"Reading the report on the goings on at City Hall, one cannot help but feel white hot rage. I kept having the sense that I am in a bad dream and will wake up to great relief. We cannot afford to have ‘mafia gangs' disguised as councillors doing irregular issuing of tenders, corrupt land deals, nepotism and looting of council property for personal gain," said Prof Ncube.
