The first 7km section of Chairman Mao Boulevard, formerly known as Old Mazowe Road, will open to traffic today following its upgrade. The road, extending from the Westgate roundabout to Gwebi River Crossing, has been widened, resurfaced, and remarked. This development is part of the Second Republic's ongoing infrastructure improvements since 2018, including preparations for the 44th SADC Summit to be hosted in Zimbabwe.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development announced the road reopening, highlighting their commitment to enhancing road quality and safety nationwide. Roadworks on additional sections of Chairman Mao Boulevard are still in progress, with the public urged to remain patient and adhere to traffic regulations during the completion of these works.

Transport Minister Felix Mhona recently stated that the government is diligently preparing for the SADC Summit, with significant progress on road and infrastructure projects. By June 30, major roads leading to key areas are expected to be completed, and by July 24, villas will be ready. Currently, about 70% of major road projects and 50% of villa construction have been completed, with ongoing efforts to meet the deadlines.
