There were early Christmas donations and distribution this Friday in Harare's Kuwadzana and Highfields suburbs when Betty Nhambu-Kaseke (Founder President of Betty Kaseke Foundation), Charles Tavengwa (Harare Provincial Affairs Minister) and Tzu Chi Zimbabwe (non-profit organisation) donate rice amongst vulnerable and less privileged members of society.

Speaking during the donation handover and distribution event in Kuwadzana, Minister Charles Tavengwa has announced that thousands will be benefiting from government food security initiatives throughout the province and its partnership with private players.

"We distributed rice to various less priviledged members of urban communities including Highfields where over 700 people benefited whilst in Kuwadzana over 600 have received the same donation. From here, we will be proceeding to Epworth where thousands will be benefiting from this initiative," Tavengwa said.

"It is part of governance in ensuring that urban communities are food sufficient and we are targeting thousands to benefit from these programmes," Tavengwa added.

Betty Nhambu-Kaseke has also echoed the same sentiments describing the gesture as part of her Foundation's tireless efforts and dream to partner private players in complementing government in arresting starvation amongst communities.

"As a foundation, it is important to note that we are people-centred and our main thrust is to ensure everyone is fed. It is our duty as community leaders to ensure that less priviledged and vulnerable members of our communities are well fed and do not starve in the wake of El-Nino induced drought," Betty Nhambu-Kaseke said.

"We applaud our President, Cde E.D Mnangagwa for being a pioneer in being friend to all and an enemy to none. This has attracted everyone on board and gained international attention amongst well-wishers," Betty Nhambu-Kaseke added.

Meanwhile, several beneficiaries, bulky of them being elderly and differently able-bodied have expressed their joy describing the donation as both a relief and assurance for merry-making during the Christmas holiday. We
