Former Acting Speaker of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Raymore Machingura, has been appointed to head the Presidential and National Scholarships Department in the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Machingura, who has an extensive background in public service and parliamentary affairs, is expected to bring valuable experience to the role, overseeing the management and allocation of scholarships aimed at enhancing Zimbabwe's educational capacity and fostering talent development.
In a parallel move, Rossy Mpofu, a war veteran and current Member of Parliament for women's proportional representation, has been appointed as the Special Advisor on Disability Issues in the Office of the President and Cabinet. Mpofu, known for her activism and contributions to the welfare of women and marginalized groups, will now focus on championing the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that their concerns are represented at the highest levels of government.
Both appointments were announced recently as part of a broader reshuffling of key positions within the Office of the President and Cabinet, which is aimed at strengthening the government's efforts in addressing critical social and educational issues.
Machingura's appointment to lead the Presidential and National Scholarships Department comes at a time when Zimbabwe is looking to bolster its human capital by improving access to higher education, both domestically and internationally.
