ANC confirms expulsion of Jacob Zuma

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed the expulsion of former President Jacob Zuma following the decision by the National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal (NDCA) to uphold his removal from the party.

The ANC criticised Zuma's actions as a severe breach of organisational discipline, citing his establishment and leadership of a rival political party, the MK Party, as a direct assault on the movement's historical mission and principles.

"By doing so, he abandoned the core values of organisational loyalty and collective accountability, converting himself into a tool for destabilisation," said the ANC in a statement explaining that the expulsion was necessary to "safeguard the party's integrity and ensure its cohesion during a critical period of organisational renewal and confronting the country's challenges".

"Unity is not a given; it is achieved in active struggle and built on the disciplined actions of leaders and members alike," the ANC noted, stressing that no individual, regardless of their stature or historical contributions, would be allowed to jeopardise the party's mission to build a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic, and prosperous society.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow.
