SADC headquarters handed over to Mnangagwa

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Headquarters Building has officially been handed over to Zimbabwe's President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, who currently serves as the Chairman of the regional bloc.

The handover ceremony took place this afternoon, with President Mnangagwa receiving the building on behalf of the Heads of State and Government of the SADC member states.
A Collaborative Effort

Before its handover, the SADC Headquarters Building was managed under a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement. The arrangement saw SADC, Bongwe Investments (Proprietary) Limited, a private partner, and the Botswana government as the guarantor working together to complete the project.

In his address, President Mnangagwa expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts that brought the SADC House to fruition. "SADC House should be an embodiment of the region's history, culture, and heritage," he stated. "The building testifies to the importance of collaborative efforts. I congratulate all parties involved in the public–private partnership."
Strengthening Regional Ties

The President also took the opportunity to congratulate President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana on his recent re-election victory. "Botswana is our second home. Our two countries enjoy excellent multi-faceted relations. The enabling environment in Botswana allows the SADC Secretariat to execute the bloc's mandate seamlessly," said Mnangagwa.

The SADC Headquarters Building is a significant addition to the region's infrastructure and will serve as the central hub for the organization's administrative and diplomatic activities. With its completion, the building stands as a testament to the region's continued commitment to regional integration and cooperation.

This landmark event also underscores the strength of partnerships within the Southern African region, as nations collaborate to improve infrastructure and promote collective goals for the benefit of all member states.
