The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it has taken swift disciplinary action against three police officers implicated in a viral video showing an altercation with motorists during a traffic enforcement operation in Budiriro, Harare.

In a statement released Thursday, the police said it does not condone misconduct by its members and confirmed that appropriate disciplinary measures had been imposed on the officers with immediate effect. The ZRP, however, did not disclose the exact nature of the sanctions.

The widely circulated video, which has been trending across social media platforms, captures a heated confrontation between motorists and police officers during a routine traffic stop. The footage has ignited public debate on police behaviour, accountability, and relations with the public on Zimbabwe's roads.

In its statement, the ZRP appealed for restraint and mutual respect during law enforcement encounters, urging both officers and members of the public to act responsibly.

"The Police urges motorists to be law-abiding citizens and avoid using obscene or vulgar words to police officers, especially women on effecting arrests," the statement read.

The incident comes at a time when the ZRP is under increasing public scrutiny over the conduct of some officers at roadblocks, with citizens and civic groups calling for reforms to enhance professionalism and transparency within the force.

Police authorities said internal disciplinary systems are being reinforced to ensure officers uphold the highest standards of integrity and public service while carrying out their duties.

The ZRP reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
