Man (25) arrested for raping his mother

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in Marondera on allegations of raping his 58-year-old mother following a night of heavy beer drinking at a nearby shebeen.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of November 3, 2025, at March Farm, after the two had spent the previous evening drinking together.
Mashonaland East acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Naume Gondo, confirmed the arrest, saying investigations were ongoing.
"It is reported that on November 2, around 7 pm, the 58-year-old mother and her son proceeded to a nearby shebeen to drink beer. The mother returned home drunk around 11 pm, leaving her son behind," said Assistant Inspector Gondo.
She said the woman had left the main door unlocked, expecting her son to return later and have his supper.
"On November 3, around 2 am, the mother was awakened by someone raping her. She asked the person to identify himself, and that is when he mentioned his name, realising she was being raped by her biological son," she added.
The distraught mother reportedly dressed up and alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene and apprehended the suspect before handing him over to the police.
Assistant Inspector Gondo urged members of the public to drink responsibly and to maintain strong moral values within families to avoid such tragic incidents.
The suspect remains in police custody, and a full investigation is underway.
