Teacher jailed for indecent assault of pupils

The Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court has convicted a 47‑year‑old primary school teacher and sentenced him to 24 months’ imprisonment for indecently assaulting three female pupils.


The offences occurred in March 2026, when the teacher used his position of authority to target three Grade 5 pupils aged between 10 and 11.

In the first incident, the court heard that the offender ordered a 10‑year‑old pupil to deliver books to his house, where he indecently assaulted her by kissing her and caressing her neck.

On another date at the school, he untucked the shirt of an 11‑year‑old pupil in the classroom, caressed her back and made inappropriate remarks while exposing himself.

In the third count, the offender showed pornographic material on his mobile phone to another 11‑year‑old pupil during lesson time.

The matter came to light after the victims reported the incidents, leading to the teacher’s immediate arrest and prosecution.

Of the 24‑month sentence, the offender will serve an effective 12 months behind bars.

Authorities condemned the teacher’s conduct, noting that a teacher is entrusted with the safety and moral guidance of children, and the offender had “grossly violated this sacred duty” by exploiting the innocence of his pupils.
