A LUPANE man was slapped with an 18-year jail term for raping his uncle's girlfriend at knife point after breaking into her home following her refusal to offer him accommodation for the night.
Trevor Ndlovu (25) of Zenzo Ndlovu's homestead, Mpahlwa 3 in Lupane, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before regional magistrate for the Western Division, Mr Sikhumbuzo Nyathi, facing a count of unlawful entry and two counts of rape.
According to the State led by Mr Sifelumusa Fuzane, on 4 July 2013 at around 8pm in Sibomvu Village in Jotsholo, Ndlovu entered the complainant's yard and introduced himself as a nephew to her boyfriend and requested accommodation for the night.
The complainant, who was with her children, refused to accommodate Ndlovu who pushed the door open and entered without permission. While inside, he armed himself with a knife and asked her to have sex with him while threatening to stab her if she refused.
Before she could answer, he got into her blankets and raped her once.
The court heard that after the act, he remained in the blankets and raped her again after which he slept with her until 4am the next morning and disappeared to an unknown destination.
The complainant then made a report to police before being referred to St Luke's hospital for medical examination leading to Ndlovu's arrest. He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for unlawful entry while the two counts of rape were treated as one, resulting in an 18-year jail term of which three years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
