Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has revealed that manager Arsene Wenger considers his current crop of players to be his best ever, surpassing even the squad he had in the 'Invincibles' era.
The 2003-04 season saw the Gunners go unbeaten throughout the Premier League campaign, en route to winning their 13th title.
Now Cameroon international Song, drawing inspiration from the Arsenal legends who acquired that 'Invincible' aura, is hoping Wenger's latest creation can repay the boss' faith by living up to his expectations and being the best side he has ever produced.
"The generation of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and Co created history at Arsenal," Song told The News of the World.
"I used to watch them on TV and wanted to be like them. Now, despite [last] Sunday's defeat [against Birmingham City in the League Cup final], we can take inspiration from them to try and create our own piece of history.
"What the 2004 team did will never be forgotten. That was one of the best Arsenal teams ever.
"But Arsene Wenger has told us this current squad is the best generation he has ever had and when he tells you that it makes you want to give even more, to repay his faith.
"He is the best manager in the world and those words have given us a huge lift. We want to show him they are true."
