Zimbabwe's hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations were further dented on Saturday after a 1-0 loss away to Mali.
The defeat means the Warriors remain third in Group A with 2 points from three matches, five points behind group leaders Cape Verde who beat Liberia 4-2 also on Saturday.
Mali defender Cheik Diabate headed home the winner in the 24th minute to insure the home side secured all three points.
Zimbabwe coach Norman Mapeza tried to turn things around in the second half, introducing Denvar Mukamba, Archie Gutu and Ovidy Karuru in an effort to put pressure on the Mali defence.
But the hosts remained resolute and held on for a victory that has left them second in Group A on six points with the campaign on the halfway mark.
Zimbabwe drew their first two matches against Liberia and Cape Verde.
