The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Bert Koenders, said on Friday 3 February 2012 that he hoped to decide next week on the partial certification of the legislative elections now that the Constitutional Council (CC) and Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) have spoken.
Koenders made the announcement following a tripartite meeting he had with the chairmen of the CC, Francis Wodié, and the IEC, Youssouf Bakayoko.
He said the meeting gave them an opportunity to discuss all elements related to the legislative poll of 11 December 2011 that were left to be resolved. The head of the UN Operation in Côte d'Ivoire said the partial certification would be done with a view to moving the process forward. "We shall thus be able to move ahead with other things," he stressed. "There has been progress and that is positive".
