THE Kitwe High Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man to death by hanging for murdering his friend.
This is in a case in which Gift Sinkamba of Bulangililo township was facing one count of murder.
Zambia Daily Mail reported that particulars of the offence are that on December 13, 2014, Sinkamba murdered Jonas Phiri.
Delivering judgment, Justice Isaac Kamwendo said the prosecution had managed to prove the offence of murder against Sinkamba beyond reasonable doubt.
He said there was overwhelming evidence against the accused and that he found him guilty as charged and convicted him accordingly.
"I sentence you to death by hanging until you are pronounced dead by a medical practitioner, and if you are not happy with what I have done, you can appeal to the Supreme Court within 14 days," Justice Kamwendo said.
During trial, Paul Sinkamba testified that on the fateful day, around 16:00 hours, his older brother, the deceased, was at home when the convict came.
The court heard that the two started arguing but they went out to drink beer together. However, later in the evening, Paul learnt that his brother had been killed and that the matter was reported to the police.
