Voter registration is a big sham - MDC-T

MDC-T Harare East Youth Assembly has described the voter registration currently on going as a sham due to slow pace in which it is conducted especially in urban areas.
The party youth said it is clear that the voter registration that is going on is a big sham.
"Our people are being frustrated by the slow pace of the registration. In the urban areas especially in Harare an average of 72 people are being registered daily while hundreds are being turned away. There are no servers and we don't know where this information is going," said the youth.
"While Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is training voter registration officers we do not know where they are drawing them from. The strategy of both ZEC and the regime is very simple: They want to discourage our people from registering to vote. They want Zimbabweans to give up on voter registration and therefore abandoning voting altogether. The second reason is that they want people to reject the BVR system."
The youth said this way the ZEC and Zanu PF will gladly return to the old system started and maintained by Tobaiwa Mudede and the security services.
"They want Zimbabweans in the towns to be so frustrated that when voter registration starts in earnest in October many people would not bother to register to vote. In designing this strategy the government and ZEC have seriously undermined the resolve and resilience of the Zimbabwean people. We shall not give up on voter registration. We shall keep on knocking. Thus these tactics of frustration must act to motivate us to be even more determined. Zimbabweans must think of what another 5 years with Zanu PF will mean for the young generation," said the youth.
"Therefore we will have to re-organise ourselves and confront ZEC and the regime. In this regard our people must continue presenting themselves for registration in their thousands. We are also mounting court challenges. Further we have to go into the streets and peacefully demonstrate against the attempts to steal our vote. This voter registration battle is the Waterloo and Mugabe, ZEC and Zanu PF know it. We are not begging to be registered. We are demanding. We shall not be given our rights. We shall take them. Shortly are going to advise on the dates and venues of mass action."
