Man bashes cop, suspect escapes

There was drama at Makhubu village in Mphoengs, Matabeleland South province when a police officer was assaulted after arresting a malicious damage to property suspect.
The cop was allegedly severely assaulted by the suspect's brother thereby defeating the course of justice.
The matter came to light at Plumtree magistrates courts yesterday where Tshebukani Ndebele appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to June 18.
The state led by Selestine Madziwa alleged on June 2 the cop Arther Mupfeki attended a report of malicious property damage and went to apprehend the suspect.
When he was taking the suspect to the car, the brother of the suspect (Ndebele) pounced on the cop demanding the release of the arrested suspect.
When the cop tried to explain he was assaulted with open hands before being stoned by the violent Ndebele.
The attack prompted the arrested suspect to escape.
