Construction of NUST library resumes after 20-year halt

Construction of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) Central Library, stalled at 30 percent two decades ago, will resume next year following a Structural Integrity Assessment certifying the building fit for construction.

Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira, stated that the library aims to be the best modern library among higher learning institutions, with completion expected within 36 months.

Nust has adopted a new construction model, taking over unfinished projects like the Prof Phinias-Mogorosi Makhurane Technovation Centre.

This approach led to substantial progress, with the Tech Centre reaching 76 percent completion and set for commissioning in November 2024. Savings of over US$200,000 were realized by simplifying designs.

The Central Library's construction will commence in 2025, focusing on modernization and digitalization.

Other infrastructure projects, including the Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering buildings and student accommodation, are also progressing, with completion expected within 9 to 18 months once construction resumes.
