A Guruve man suffered permanent injuries to both legs after being attacked with an axe by a friend in a suspected love triangle dispute.

Warren Mwale, a resident of Tenanog Farm in Guruve, was brutally assaulted by Calvin Dzinzi (28), after Dzinzi allegedly caught Mwale in a compromising situation with his wife, Aisha Mufanechiya.

The incident was heard at the Bindura Regional Magistrates’ Court, where Magistrate Elisha Singano sentenced Dzinzi to four years in prison for the violent assault. Prosecutor Edward Katsvairo outlined the circumstances leading up to the attack.

According to the court, the two men had been drinking together at a local bar on October 10. Mwale, who was temporarily staying at Dzinzi’s home, left the bar early, claiming he had consumed enough alcohol, and returned to the house alone.

Dzinzi returned home around 1:00 AM and, upon discovering that his wife was not in their bedroom, proceeded to the guest room where Mwale was staying. After his knocks went unanswered, Dzinzi forcibly entered the room and allegedly found his wife and Mwale together.

In a fit of rage, Dzinzi attacked Mwale with a metal rod before using an axe to strike him on the arms and legs, causing severe injuries. Mufanechiya reportedly fled the scene screaming, alerting neighbors who rushed to Mwale's aid.

Dzinzi fled into the night before he was later apprehended by authorities. Mwale was taken to hospital, where he was treated for extensive injuries that have since been deemed permanent.
