Man finally in court 8 years after sister's murder

After eight years on the run, a man accused of killing his sister has finally been brought before the courts.

Silindi Ncube (38) appeared before West Commonage Magistrate Melinda Mufungidza yesterday, where he was formally charged with murder.

The brief hearing drew a tense crowd as Ncube, who has been the subject of a prolonged manhunt, stood quietly while the magistrate remanded him in custody to September 26. Mufungidza advised him to apply for bail at the High Court. He was not asked to plead.

Ncube's arrest has reopened old wounds in Old Magwegwe, where the murder occurred nearly a decade ago.

Last Friday, he was dramatically apprehended after residents spotted him sitting outside the very house where the crime took place.

For the community, which has long carried the scars of the tragedy, Ncube's capture marks a turning point as justice begins to catch up with him.
