The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has opened an investigation into Ngezi Platinum Stars head coach Takesure Chiragwi following an incident during Saturday's league match against Dynamos FC at Rufaro Stadium, in which TV footage appeared to show him striking one of his own players.
In a statement, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare said the incident "was broadcast live on ZBC Jive TV … where he appears to be assaulting his own player on the Technical area." The league has requested detailed reports from both the club and match officials to establish the facts.
"The safety, security and safeguarding of players, officials and all stakeholders remain our top priority," the statement read. "The league strongly condemns any form of violence and the PSL will not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary action where necessary in line with the PSL Rules and Regulations."
The alleged altercation has sparked outrage among fans and overshadowed Ngezi's encounter with Dynamos, with calls for swift disciplinary measures. The PSL has withheld further comment pending the receipt of all relevant reports.
