Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has made it clear that tollgate fees are mandatory for all motorists, urging those without funds to opt for public transport instead of risking non-compliance.

Responding to a supplementary question from Makoni Central MP Patrick Sagandira in Parliament, Mhona emphasized that driving without tollgate payment is not permissible under government policy.

"If you have no money for the tollgates, you leave your motor vehicle and use public transport,” Mhona said. "We urge you not to drive your motor vehicles if you have no tollgate fees."

His remarks come amid growing public frustration over road levies and enforcement, especially during economic hardship. The statement reinforces the government’s stance on road user obligations and the importance of maintaining infrastructure funding through toll collections.
