Suspended Vendors for Economic Development (Vendors4ED) members have filed counter‑charges against the organisation’s new chairman, Samu Jere, accusing him of violence, despite facing their own allegations of diverting Presidential empowerment funds.

The suspended members were accused of conniving with former patron Tendai Charuka, former chairman Samora Chisvo and secretary‑general Brighton Kwinjo to divert US$125 000 out of the US$200 000 that had been allocated for vendors nationwide.

Jere confirmed the development, describing the counter‑charges as an abuse of the law.

He said the group, led by Charuka, lodged the complaints while their own case - involving alleged misuse of Presidential funds and threats of violence - is already before the courts.

According to Jere, Mavhura Calvin, Sindisiwe Moyo, Florence Ncube and Caroline James all filed reports on 20 January. Charuka reported at Queenspark Police Station, Sindisiwe at Sauerstown, while Mavhura and Florence Ncube reported at Bulawayo Central, all targeting the Vendors4ED chairman.
