Bulawayo burglary suspect arrested over 26 theft cases

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 43‑year‑old Bulawayo man in connection with a series of unlawful entry and theft cases committed over a two‑year period.
Thulani Jere was arrested on 30 April 2026 at his home in Pumula East following a tip‑off from members of the public. Police say he is linked to 26 cases reported in Bulawayo between 24 February 2024 and 25 April 2026.
According to the ZRP, Jere allegedly targeted townhouses, lodges, bed‑and‑breakfast establishments and residential properties, stealing cash, cellphones, household goods and electrical gadgets. The total value of stolen property is estimated at US$44,585, ZAR7,100 and ZW$9,000.
Police recovered some of the stolen items during the arrest, including ZW$9,000, a battery charger, electric drilling machine, angle grinder, welding machine, lithium battery and various clothing items, with a combined value of US$3,050.
Authorities have commended the public for providing information that led to the arrest. Investigations are ongoing, and police are now appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of an alleged accomplice, Xolani Moyo, who is still at large.
