ZAKA - MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai last week attended the burial of headman Mafios Muuyo Mutobwe who died at the age of 94 and was not only a World War II veteran but a staunch supporter of the MDC-T.

Speaking at the burial in Chief Bote's area in Zaka on Friday last week, Tsvangirai urged Zimbabweans not to fight each other over politics as they were at the end of the day all relatives. He also praised the environment which prevailed at the funeral of Mutobwe where supporters from both Zanu-PF and MDC T were present.

"I am impressed that there are no slogans here, we are relatives who hate and fight each other and this is why our country is not progressing," said Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai said he met Mutobwe at a rally sometime back and he was putting on his village headmanship badge and World War 2 medals and he was impressed by his resolve for change in Zimbabwe and they became friends.

"We are not mourning, we are celebrating the history of this man. His participation in World War 2 is a historical for Zaka and as a party we saw it fit to celebrate his life. I met him at a rally and we became friends. He asked me to bury him when he died and that's why I am here," said Tsvangirai.

Zanu-PF MP for Zaka West Vincent Mawere also attended the burial and told mourners that he had known Mutobwe since the 1970s. He knew him as humble man who fought during the world war.

"He was a world war veteran but despite that he was a humble man who lived well with his people. It is quite an honour for us to bury a man who achieved a lot during his life," said Mawere.

Mutobwe was born in 1922 and fought in Burma Wars. He was a pillar within the Bota Chieftainship.

The burial was also attended by Elias Mudzuri, Zaka Senator Misheck Marava, MDC T Masvingo Provincial Chairman James Gumbi, Masvingo Mayor Hubert Fidze, Festus Dumbu and other officials.
