ZANU-PF Harare provincial leadership met Sunday and resolved that Harare International Airport should be named after President Robert Mugabe.

Recently, the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry officials saw an upgraded road being unveiled as the Harare International Airport Road, instead of its official name: Joshua Nkomo Expressway in the capital.

Zanu-PF Harare province's political commissar Shadreck Mashayamombe said this is not new since another airport in Bulawayo is named after the late vice president Joshua Nkomo.

He added: "We resolved that Harare International Airport be named after President Robert Mugabe.

"Like in South Africa, they have OR Tambo International Airport named after former president of the African National Congress, the late Oliver Tambo.

"The airport was originally known as Jan Smuts International Airport after that country's former leader."
