The opposition Freedom Alliance party has declared its support for the Zapu Candidate in the Insiza North by-election, Thabani Mlotshwa.

Mlotshwa is battling it out with Zanu PF Candidate Delani Moyo, independent candidate Lesley Dube, ànd Mbongeni Moyo of National Revival Party.

The by-elections are set for June 14.

In a statement, FA deputy National Leader Presia Ngulube said the party has endorsed ZAPU candidate in Insiza North.

"Being founded on multiplicity, plurality, diversity, democracy and multi-stakeholdership, we unequivocally endorse Thabani Mlotshwa, the ZAPU candidate, in the forthcoming by-election for Member of Parliament for Insiza North Constituency," she said.

"Since its inception, the Freedom Alliance has bellowed the call for unity loud enough for all and sundry to hear and heed it. We strongly believe that our envisaged multi-stakeholder unity is the undisputable panacea for our freedom and development in Insiza North in particular and in the country generally."

She said in that regard, the candidature of Mlotshwa, a local farmer and businessman and former secondary school teacher who is contesting in this by-election, comes in good stead and at the opportune time when the opposition and voters need to either redefine themselves or perish beyond redemption.

"This is a do-or-die moment in our history wherein we need to send the strongest possible message ever against tyranny and dictatorship. We shall do it together as the progressive forces through the people-derived candidature of Thabani Mlotshwa, who is a well-groomed ZAPU representative," Ngulube said.

Considering the destruction of the country by ZANU since 1980, we humbly foresee ZAPU and the people winning this seat! The FA is placing all its weight on all efforts that are bent against ZANU misrule and corruption."

Ngulube said at this defining moment, "let us effectively bring together all the disenfranchised and downtrodden people of Insiza North and help them achieve genuine representation in parliament. We can augment those efforts by raising the requisite financial and material resources to support the current ZAPU election campaign in Insiza North Constituency."

"Our mission is pivoted on selfless support of all individuals and organizations that genuinely seek to free our people from the ZANU chains of slavery."

She said FA will continue the all-encompassing work of uniting oppressed people and will never close the door on anyone until all people and organisations representing oppressed people are under one roof bound by the common goal of self government.

FA is the second Matabeleland-based party that has publicly backed Zapu Candidate after Mthwakazi Republic Party faction of Mfulongatshi Mpofu also declared support for the candidate following the disqualification of theirs Joel Mabhena by the nomination court last week.
