There have been many top African players that have graced the English Premier League. From midfield technicians to deadly frontmen, all kinds of footballers from the continent have starred in England's top flight. They have played major roles in title victories and some even had a significant impact on the European stage. But who has been the pick of the bunch when it comes to African stars playing in the biggest league in the world?

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has been a sensation at Liverpool ever since he walked through the door. He arrived at Jurgen Klopp's side from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. Salah began breaking records in his debut season such as the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

Salah has produced impressive returns in each season he has played at Anfield. The team has not played well this season and will likely miss out on the UEFA Champions League qualification but this has not been due to a lack of quality on Salah's part. In Bwin betting, Liverpool is offered at +1000 to achieve a top-four finish, which is just one of many markets across various leagues that they offer, as well as a range of promotions. Salah's performances have certainly not correlated with his team's poor form. Salah had managed 13 goals and seven assists in his first 29 appearances this season. It may be below average based on the Egyptian's standards, but he has still been one of the Reds' leading players. The Egyptian most recently excelled in the seven-goal thrashing of Manchester United as covered at Bulawayo24.

Salah is arguably the greatest player from Africa to ever play in the league due to his tendency to consistently break records. Salah could equal Thierry Henry's golden boot record of four titles with one more in the remainder of his Liverpool career. Salah would then have a claim to being among the best players of all time in the Premier League, not just the greatest African player.

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure has been featured in the Premier League Hall of Fame list. The Ivorian midfielder is recognized as one of the greatest midfielders to ever play in the league. The likes of Sadio Mane and Didier Drogba have enjoyed legendary spells in the English top flight. However, they certainly lacked the mix of longevity and consistency that Toure and Salah boast. Toure was a complete box-to-box midfielder that offered goals and assists while constantly breaking up the play in midfield. Toure won three Premier League titles during his time with Manchester City and played an integral role in each victory. The Ivory Coast legend's greatest individual season came in 2013/14 when he managed 20 goals and 13 assists in 35 league appearances. It arguably remains the greatest season on record for a Premier League midfielder.

Salah and Toure both reached peaks that players in their position had never conquered in the Premier League. Both have claims to be the greatest players in league history in their position. They are certainly some of Africa's most talented and successful stars ever. Toure left a significant legacy at City and Salah continues to build on his at Liverpool.
