Opposition activist Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba WeShanduko, appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai yesterday facing charges of incitement to participate in a public gathering with intent to cause public violence.

The allegations arise from the planned One Million Men March, a demonstration reportedly organised by war veteran Blessed "Bombshell" Runesu Geza.

Karembera, represented by lawyer Paida Saurombe, was remanded in custody to today for his bail application. Saurombe opposed the placement of his client on remand, arguing that the arrest was unlawful and that Karembera was allegedly assaulted by police officers. He presented images in court showing injuries on Karembera's back as evidence of the alleged assault.

According to the State, Karembera and his alleged accomplices-who remain at large-conspired to mobilise the public to participate in the protest, which was aimed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The march was reportedly scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square and Africa Unity Square in Harare.

Prosecutors said the planned demonstrations followed statements made by Geza in a series of YouTube videos accusing the President of corruption, looting, and betrayal of Zimbabweans.

Court documents allege that Karembera and others printed and distributed thousands of fliers in Machipisa, Highfield, Glen View, and Budiriro, bearing slogans such as "STOP THE LOOTING," "ZIMBABWE IS NOT FOR SALE," "7 BILLION REASONS TO MARCH," and "ONE MILLION MAN MARCH."

Police reportedly received a tip-off about a silver Toyota Aqua distributing the fliers and intercepted the vehicle along Patrenda Road in Glen View, recovering 7,200 flyers. While Karembera and two others allegedly fled the scene, one suspect-Malvern Mavhere-was arrested.

The State further claimed that on the day the march was set to take place, Karembera recorded and shared a video on WhatsApp groups and Facebook, allegedly urging the public to gather at Africa Unity Square.

The recovered fliers were submitted in court as exhibits.
