A Bindura man, James Chigume, from Wayerera Village, has been jailed for five years for robbery following his conviction before Bindura magistrate Felix Chauromwe.
The 21‑year‑old will serve four years and six months, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Sheilla Kudzai Maribha told the court that on 4 April, around midnight, Chigume was travelling in an ox‑drawn cart when he met the complainant, Prince Munzara (45), who was walking home.
Chigume invited Munzara onto the cart, and he accepted. After travelling a short distance, the robber ordered the complainant to disembark, grabbed him by the collar and pinned him to the ground.
Munzara was overpowered and robbed of his cellphone and US$68.
Chigume fled with the stolen items.
