Bulawayo hit by 2 armed robberies, losses exceed US$30k

Bulawayo was shaken yesterday by two daring armed robberies that left victims reeling from losses totaling more than US$30 000.

Police sources reported that the first incident occurred at a businessman's home in the city centre. A female employee, tasked with depositing US$1 000 from the day's takings, walked into a terrifying ordeal when six armed men confronted her upon entering the flat.

"She went to her employer's place of residence but did not find him home. The house was not locked. As soon as she entered, six armed robbers appeared and demanded all the money she had. Terrified, she handed it over," a police source said. The gang then ransacked the flat, locating an additional US$25 000 before fleeing the scene.

Later the same day, a Micro Finance outlet along Herbert Chitepo Street was targeted, with robbers making off with US$7 000 in what police describe as a well-coordinated spree.

"I can confirm that we had two armed robbery cases in Bulawayo yesterday. Police will share the finer details later in the day," said Commissioner Paul Nyathi, national police spokesperson.

The suspects remain unidentified as investigations continue. Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant while intensifying patrols in the affected areas.
