Two elderly women from Ziko Village under Chief Seke caused a stir on Friday after they staged a nude protest against a neighbour they accused of encroaching on their land.
The women, Gogo Anna Chick and Gogo Cecilia Chiremba, stripped in protest outside the home of Bonface Nyangombe, alleging that he was illegally extending his residential stand into Gogo Chiremba's property.
The dramatic protest drew dozens of villagers, who watched in shock as the two elderly women demanded justice, accusing Nyangombe of trying to take advantage of Gogo Chiremba's old age and vulnerability.
The land dispute is currently before Chief Seke, but the case is yet to be finalised. Efforts to obtain comment from the traditional leader were unsuccessful.
Sources allege that some Manyame Rural District Council officials may have issued fraudulent documents to Nyangombe to back his claim to the property.
In response, Gogo Chiremba reportedly obtained official documentation from the council affirming her ownership of the land, which she has held since 2016, complete with receipts.
Nyangombe, however, insists the property is his and has since applied for a protection order at the Chitungwiza Civil Court, where his case is expected to be heard today.
"I have an offer letter from the responsible authority, Manyame RDC," said Nyangombe. "I also have Chief Seke's confirmation of my ownership of the stand."
Villagers have rallied behind Gogo Chiremba, accusing local officials and land barons of manipulating documents to dispossess residents.
"Bonface is trying to take advantage of Gogo Cecilia's age," said one villager. "We are unhappy with how some council employees are siding with land barons. The CEO of Manyame RDC knows about this issue, yet nothing has been done."
Sources within the council revealed that a Manyame RDC employee implicated in the dispute has since been transferred as investigations continue.
The incident has reignited concerns over land corruption and abuse of power within local authorities, a problem that continues to fuel community tensions in peri-urban areas around Harare.
